Illiberal Virtuosity

Crushing leftist maladroits since birth.

My obligatory Stop the Bailout and Cuff Dodd post.

The entire newsmedia and more just recently, the FBI, are supposedly investigating the current credit crisis to find out what went wrong and just who is responsible.  It seems pretty clear to me.

I have a question.  How come Christopher Dodd is not in handcuffs?

I have done a bit of research on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and find that this is the number one source of all the bailout drama that has thus far occurred and has no end in sight.  How did this happen?  Read a few of the articles below and it becomes quite clear..

During the 90’s, the Clinton administration and congressional Democrats leaned all over the financial markets to delve into risky subprime markets and when then balked, the same people, most notably Barney Franks and Dodd himself, pushed Fannie & Freddie to buy these loans, thereby facilitating the greedy money people on Wall Street.  This is not to mention the many many Clinton cronies that got rich along the way.

I know I know.  This all sounds familar.  Democrat politicians legislating environments that lead to bad behavior that is detrimental to the country, ie welfare, marriage penalty et al.

By the way, dont forget Chris Dodd’s sweetheart loan deal..

Dodd claims he “didn’t know” he was getting a break.. The guy is on the damn Senate Banking Commission!

Clearly Senator Dodd is GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY….  and so are all you Democrats who have repeatedly voted for this slime.

I say we stop the bailout altogether especially since now the latest version of Congressional Democrat slime wants to add everything from your neighbors foreclosure to some fool’s unpaid car note to the bill.

WHY IN THE HELL AM I (and millions of other decent Americans) PAYING MY BILLS ON TIME?

Join Newt, and I and others and STOP THE BAILOUT!

08 Presidential Possibilities Part I Summer 2007

Oh, I know its early yet but many prominent decision makers are starting to take sides so I thought it was high time I weighed in on the subject.

First off, the only Democrats that have a chance are Hillary, Obama,  and Edwards. Also, there remains a distinct possibility of even the Goracle himself joining the race.  Those that I didn’t mention have no prayer, and no chance.  Biden & Kucinich are ultra partisan lefties and while their positions play well with the moveon.org ultra-liberal base, they have zero personality and no draw for the umpteen clueless Americans that will eventually vote for a Democrat in the general election.  Dodd only gets a mention because he is my current CT Senator.  Thankfully, I have a strong feeling it will be his last term.  His unfavorables climb higher every year and without Lieberman as an ally, I sense he is destined lose his next campaign.  I can dream, can’t I?

As far as the front-runners go, I think even most Democrats have come to think of John Edwards as the shyster-lawyer that he is.  The “only man talking about poverty in America” is the same guy who lives in a home so large it alters weather patterns and spends more money on his hair in a month than most people do in a decade.   Average Americans might not be able to show you Iraq on a map or tell you the name of the VP but they can absorb the simple concept of  “shyster-lawyer”.

Obama is the dream candidate of the super-lefties.  He has the same positions as Biden & Kucinich and many of the leftwing pundits yet has something they don’t, charisma.  This has propelled Obama’s fundraising ability to near Clintonesque heights, especially with the netroots crowd.  He is a darkhorse candidate but personally I think the Clinton machine will crush him before long.  Not only that, despite the leftwings assumed superiority with regard to tolerance and anti-prejudice, there are some Democrats that will not vote for a black man, regardless of his merits.

Hillary has a similar problem as some voters will just not vote for a woman.   Also, her position changes on the Iraq war will hurt her horribly in the primaries against her anti-war anti-American challengers.  Although, they will likely help her in the general.  My personal opinion of Hillary is that she is completely unlike her husband in that she is a hard worker on the plus side but completely annoying to listen to on the negative side.   As far as their politics go, they are kindred spirits which is to say, they will do whatever is politically expedient and falls in the realm of “things we can get away with.”  Aside from that, she shows up in polls as having the most people who won’t vote for her under any circumstances.  This is not usually a desirable trait in a candidate but her name is Clinton and I see her using her husbands famed likability day in and day out until the better end.

Incidentally, a bitter end is exactly what I see for the Democrats 2008 Presidential hopes.  Obviously, I’m a Republican and a tremendous partisan so its easy to dismiss my outlook as completely biased.   Yet, the way I see it, the Democrats will likely end up with Hillary or Obama as their candidate.  As long as there is a strong Republican candidate, I think our side has the better chance for victory.

The question is “will we have a strong Republican candidate”?  The answer is most assuredly, yes.   Like the Democrats, we have our share of  second string candidates.  Brownback, Gilmore, Huckabee,  Hunter, Tancredo, Thompson and yes, John McCain all fit this mold.  Don’t get me wrong.   I have strong admiration for some of these guys.  It’s just that none of them have a chance.  Huckabee would be my favorite out of the second tier guys.  He’s a solid Republican, I am with him on the issues and if fate gave him a nudge, I would champion his cause.  McCain, on the hand, repeatedly sells out Republicans on the issues and for some reason, he still seems surprised when his support evaporates.  Ron Paul is a nutjob.  Enough said.

Currently, the Republican front-runners include Guiliani, Romney, and Thompson.   Guiliani is an old school politico who’s status as a viable POTUS was reinvigorated by 9-11.  And rightfully so, I love his stance on the War on Terror and I have faith that he would even stick to it.  Where I worry is on immigration reform and gun control.   Simply put, he is your typical center-right candidate that got us the last two Bush’s.  Which is to say, he is not nearly Republican or at least, conservative enough for my tastes.

Romney looks good in a lot of ways.  He definitely performed in the debates.  He’s a handsome man.  That will get you some votes from little old ladies somewhere no doubt.  Most importanlty, he looks and sounds like a Republican virtually all of the time.  This is shocking considering he comes from a very very blue state.  He strikes me as a less well known but more polished Guiliani, another center-right guy who is clearly a skilled a politician.  The problem is that I want a statesman not a politician.

Don’t get me wrong.  I would take either of these guys over any of the Dems.  I just get frustrated when the decision makers in the party start backing the Guiliani’s of the world out of fear.  They toss around the word “electable” and worry about people looking “presidential”.  It’s all a load.  I have enough confidence in the average voter that if they were given the real conservative message, they would choose it in a heartbeat.  It doesn’t need to be finessed or compromised and thats what you get with a Bush or Guiliani type.

Fred Thompson is my dream candidate right now.  I think this is in large part that he represents my hope for a better candidate than the initial offering.  The question is “is he actually the candidate I’ve been waiting for?”  So far he has met every expectation.  I pray it continues.  Here is a guy with a commanding presence who doesn’t come off as an inside the beltway politician willing to wheel and deal.  He is a solid conservative across the board.  Is his backbone strong enough to stay on message?  Time will tell.

I should also mention Newt Gingrich.  So far he is not an announced candidate but I feel he should be everyone’s first choice if that should happen.  I mentioned the word “statesman” earlier.  Newt is who I was referring to.  This is a man who brings all the goods to the table.  He has the experience of being Speaker.  I would argue that he is responsible for a large part of what it means to be a conservative today.  Unlike his opponents, he has read and written significantly more than one history book.  He has a proven track record (ever heard of the contract with America?) and even a plan!  Imagine actually being prepared for the job of POTUS.  He is the only candidate in either party with those bases covered.  Yes, yes I know about the baggage.  Look around people, it makes no difference.  America loves baggage.  Look at Hillary.  Hell, look at Bill.  Look at Paris Hilton for heavens sake.  The newsmedia will create baggage where there is none anyway.  Trust that Newt has a message and he knows how to deliver it.

This week I will be meeting with the draftnewt.org folks and I promise an update once I do.

Bottom line is that I feel good about our hopes for 2008.  We have the stronger candidates and of course, we have always had the right message.

Either way, we need more Americans like this Brit..

Happy Belated Independence Day America!

Independence Day in my eyes is supposed to be a day of remembering our past, honoring our fallen heroes, praying for those who protect us even now, recognizing the cumulative sacrifices of all who have gone before and appreciating the liberty and opportunity we enjoy today.

Lo, but for how far we have fallen.

On tuesday night, I had the opportunity to enjoy the Danbury fireworks with some friends.  I also found the opportunity to enlighten my friend’s teenage daughter and one of her friends.  Despite studying US History in school, both were clueless to who we even declared independence from.   Unfortunately, I think this is not uncommon.   I suggest you keep it simple.

I gave them a five minute history lesson about the Declaration of Independence in addition to the sacrifices made by others past and present so they could enjoy the liberty that they have today.  I reminded them that they could have been born anywhere else in the world into any number of societies and their lives would have been much much different.  This is true even today.  Nowhere on Earth are citizens afforded such liberty, such freedoms, such wealth nor such opportunity to achieve.  Imagine being born to work on a rice paddy somewhere in China for your entire life with no education and dying from disease and a broken back at a very early age.  Because of the fireworks, I was also able to tell them about Fort McHenry and Francis Scott Key and our national anthem.

This was a great experience for me because I felt like these two girls, likely for the first time in their lives, actually stopped just for a second to appreciate what they had and where it came from.

On the fourth, I did what a lot you probably did.  I attended a backyard barbecue and planned for some heavy eating and great conversation.   Unfortunately, we got a lot of rain so the time outside was pretty limited. Worse yet, no kickass wiffleball matches were to be had.  More unfortunate was that I kept running into conversations that were filled with hate and idiocy.  I should explain that I only knew a fraction of those in attendance and those that I did were likely relatives of my amazingly bright and beautiful girlfriend, Tammy.  Ever since we’ve met, I have struggled with keeping my extremely opionated political voice on the down low near her certain members of her family.  Many of them are old school Democrats.  Between you and me, I don’t think they even know what it means to be a Democrat, at least in 2007.  From my limited perspective, it seems to mean that bashing Bush is the only significant requirement.

Where am I going with all of this?  I guess my point is that the world is full of people who vote for Democrats but aren’t even remotely aligned with that political philosophy.  The first conversation I sat through at the barbeque was of a group of five or six folks trashing President Bush on the Scooter Libby issue.  They proudly confirmed each other’s Democrat status and laughed about how they didn’t vote for Bush so he’s not THEIR President.  One spoke at length about how Libby got a slap on the wrist and that it was a sham that Mr. War for Oil can smack lady justice around at will.  Imagine me in the corner fiddling with my blackberry reading the list of their hero, William Jefferson Clinton’s list of pardons.  Do any of these people know about this?  Take five minutes and go read this. Do they care?  Where does this hate come from?  I can’t figure it out.  These same people also talked briefly about how upset they were about tax increases.  One was apparently an avid hunter and owned several guns.  To me, they seemed like regular people that would want to preserve our American culture that is under relentless attack from the left.  Yet, they were here attacking one of the few men who is in a position to slow our tranformation into Teddy Kennedy’s America.

Those of you who know me, know that I ended my previous position as Bush’s defender when he inferred that I was a bigot because I want my border secured.  However, the man is my President and he is THEIR President too whether they like it or not and we are AT WAR people.  While Bill Clinton, a man I despise, a man with no morals, a known liar and thief, was our President, I honored his office and his position as Commander in Chief.

Later that day, one of Tammy’s relatives brought out a copy of Michael Moore’s recent movie, Sicko, which from the title, I originally thought would be autobiographical.  It turns out, however, that it refers to the feeling in my stomach when someone wants to play his movie on INDEPENDENCE DAY of all days.  Michael Moore is most famous for Fahrenheit 911, a film where he distorts the truth, edits others opinions in print and on video and flat out lies to make the greatest country on Earth, ours, look like a tyrannical despotic force from the darkside bent on killing babies and stealing oil from beautiful foreign lands where kids play with kites all day.  In my opinion, he is an enemy of our state, a lying propaganda artist and he should be tried for treason.  Anyway, I saw that and made a beeline for the door.   If you want to know about Mr. Moore’s lies, get a copy of Fahrenhype 911 and or visit www.moorewatch.com and www.mooreexposed.com.

All of this is so sad really.  I know not everyone is a conservative.  Some people are genuinely liberals.  Of course, they are misguided and ill-informed but I know from experience that even if they were informed, there would still be some liberals.  However, I dare say that very very few people align themselves with liberal Democrats based on political philosophy.  Many, it seems, are Democrats because their parents are or were, or possibly they were spoonfed liberalism in college, or even more likely, they are constantly bombarded by the newsmedia with liberal lies and distortions.

The question is what to do about all of this.  The biggest problem is that people take their own politics so seriously.  Even people who haven’t got a clue about politics still become unhinged when their understanding of political issues is in question.  I’m thinking that the answer would be a way for people to discover the truth on their own.  I’ve got an idea for a simple quiz that I’m going to work on that might do just that.  Stay tuned.

My response to the RNC’s 2007 Member Survey

I appreciate the opportunity to complete my member survey.   As you can tell, I feel that renewing the Bush taxcuts is critical but I put our national security at the forefront.  I emphasized the War on Terror and ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION as issues that I’m concerned with.  I notice that little of the survey dealt with ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.  I am quite sure I’m not the only Republican that considers this one of the biggest issues today.

As far as sending you a donation,  I’m in wait and see mode to see if I am going to send any money to the RNC or the RNCC or my state party. The reason is that in the recent midterm election, very little if any support went to Republican Senate candidate, Alan Schlesinger and it became clear the national party wanted us to vote for Joe Lieberman. I agree that Ned Lamont would have been a disaster but I still don’t like my party encouraging any vote for any liberal.

In RI, the support went to Lincoln Chafee and not Steve Laffey. The fact that Mr. Chafee is the biggest RINO ever is not lost on most Republicans.

Finally, I can point to my Governor which I know is not the fault of the RNC directly but much the same situation. In any case, she is no Republican yet she received a lot of Republican money for her campaign.

I assure you I am not the only Republican holding back on my contributions. I want candidates that at the minimum represent our core values. I’m not contributing another cent to the party until I see it happen.

Lord help us!!

Well, its election day 2006.  The demoncats are supposed to win big.  Heaven save us from such a fate.  I just heard from a friend, shes 14, and a student at a Danbury, CT high school.   Apparently, they had a mock election in her classroom today for US Senate.   Ned Lamont took nearly every vote.   What a scary thought?  I really need to leave CT.  I hate this godforsaken blue state.  After all, there is bound to be a civil war someday in the country and this will be enemy territory.   Heck, I might be the person who fires the opening shot.

I made my trip to the voting booth today.  I was in and out in 5 minutes but felt like I was surrounded by liberals the whole time.  What’s that saying about how being paranoid doesn’t mean everyone isn’t out to get me?   Anyway,  I voted Republican across the board.  Yes, I am including the Republican candidate for US Senate, Alan Schlesinger.   I have been pounding the drum hard to vote for Joe Lieberman as the lesser of two evils but when it came time to pull the lever, actually, fill in the bubble in my case, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.   Lieberman is a screaming liberal and I cannot in good conscience vote for any screaming liberals.   Ok, Ok, he is standing with the President on the war on terror but even a broken clock is right twice a day.   Anyway, its supposed to turn out with a Lieberman win anyway but I’m worried.   I spoke to half a dozen other voters today who voted for Schlesinger over Lieberman despite the “master plan” too.  I like the trend but not too much.   I don’t know what I will do if Lamont wins.   It will be life changing thats for sure.  I already have little respect for my fellow Connecticuters.  I’m convinced these are the sheeple Michael Savage refers to regularly.

Anyway, keep the faith my fellow Republicans.  I don’t think the result will be anywhere near as bad as expected.  I ‘m predicting losing 15 in the house and only 1 in the Senate.   Ultimately, I don’t think any dramatic changes in the balance of power will result and who knows, this might help us in 2008.   If you are reading this now.. Hello, grassroots Republicans, America needs you!!!

It’s getting close to election day.  More than any other election year I have personally experienced, I fear the wrong party will be in power at a crucial time in our history.  This is a very real possiblity.  The polls are trending toward the Democrats and both houses are in some jeopardy.  I am not with the multitude of ravenous media elites whose blind hatred convinces them that this outcome is certain.   It seems to me that the election is just a battle for the undecided and uninformed.  My vote was predetermined based on my political philosophy as are those on the extreme left.  It’s those wishy washy, “I’m a centrist” voters along with the misguided and soundbyte decision makers that decide who will win.  As a result, I think that elections can be decided on a moments notice based on what news is in the air.  Naturally, we on the right have a distinct disadvantage as the newsmedia is unarguably biased against our position.  I am calling on all who read this to do their part to spend the time to reach as many of these unsure voters as possible before election day.  America’s future is uncertain.  We face many many threats, Iran, North Korea, China, Al Qaeda, but none more potentially damaging than the internal sickness of spreading liberalism.  Our history is filled with those who sacrificed much for the future. Think of the American Revolution or the Greatest Generation.  We are indebted to our forefathers to honor their sacrifices and preserve their vision.  Go and do your part.

It’s simple really, STOP NED LAMONT!!!

This post is in honor of my friends, Tammy & Caroline, who say I don’t inject enough of my own opinion into my posts.  Right now I’m contemplating my position with regard to who I support in the upcoming three-way Connecticut race for a seat in the US Senate.  Initially, I wholeheartedly endorsed Mr. Alan Schlesinger, the Republican in the race because, after all, he is a Republican.   Apparently, he is surrounded with some minor hysteria about indications that he has a gambling problem.  Honestly, I don’t know anything about it as I haven’t researched it. It’s a non-issue to me.   Now, before anyone calls me a hypocrite for supporting the impeachment AND removal of Slick Willie, understand I had the same position then as now.  I never blamed any Democrats for supporting him at the time.  I can totally relate.  I would take the most crooked Republican over the most honest (as if there is any) Democrat every time.  A crooked politician might line his own pockets and those of his cronies but at least a Republican will generally act like a Republican which to me is much more important.  Electing a Democrat is heresy with regard to American History and is equal to stomping on the graves of our great nation’s founders.

This brings me to my next point, Republicans dont always act like Republicans.  This means you Mr. Lincoln Chafee.   Have I ever mentioned that I love Ann Coulter?  Oh yes, of course I have.  In fact, its nearly an ever day occurrence.  If you haven’t had a chance, read her latest column “They shot the wrong Lincoln“.  I couldn’t agree more with her even though a lot of people I agree with are mixed on the subject.  Lincoln needs to go and from what I know of him, Stephen Laffey appears to be the far better choice.  If you live in RI or know someone who does, please, pretty please spread the word.

In her article,  Ann reminds us that the Bush administration is supporting Joe Lieberman, a lifelong Democrat over Alan Schlesinger in the Connecticut Senate race.  This is a painful admission but I’m thinking I’m going to vote Joe too.  Again, wait just a minute before you get all over me.   I am no Joe supporter.  He votes against my party 90% of the time and I can already feel the knife twisting in my belly if and when I pull the lever for him.   The problem is this.  Mr. Schlesinger apparently has no chance and no desire to win.   The election is two months away and I have seen only one bumper sticker with Alan’s name on it.  Want to know where it was?   It was on HIS car!!!!   Aside from this, I have seen no campaign ads, no campaign signs, no bumperstickers, no interviews aside from 10 seconds on Fox asking his opinion on the Lieberman vs. Lamont battle.  I have written him and his campaign several times advising them to improve Alan’s campaign website which in their defense, has seen some minor improvement in the last week but still has a long way to go.  Two weeks ago, I searched high and low on the internet to find out where he stands on the issues near and dear to me with only the “issues” page on his website to guide me.  I have to say I was unimpressed.  At least now it has a paragraph each on key issues.   Honestly, its hard to say where he really stands on most things.  His paragraph on the Middle East sounds like appeasement to me, he is Pro-choice, and the rest of whats there sounds like half measures and “middle of the road, please everybody” politics.

I met Alan for the first time briefly the other day and in his defense, he has no clue who I am, whether I am influential or not etc.  Our meeting was brief and not politically related.   He was superbly pleasant and when I wished him luck in the upcoming election, he seemed genuinely astonished someone would recognize him by face or name but asked me to give him “a shot” at getting my vote.  I have to say his handshake was weak but that’s just me.  On the contrary, I have run into Joe Lieberman quite a few times and he seems to have a commanding presence and the tiniest bit of stature.  If you know me personally or are a regular reader of my commentary, you know I despise liberals so all of this is excruciating for me.  With regard to Ned Lamont, I have luckily never been within a mile of him.   This is best after all as I would make a scene and probably end up spending the next evening in jail.  For any of you nutroots types who want to throw stones.  face the facts that what I say, agree or disagree, is honest as well as “fair and balanced”.   Listen clearly, Ned has no clue about anything.  He is capitalizing on BDS and thats it.  He has no plan, no ideas, no platform.  Saying, the war in Iraq is a mistake, blah blah blah is NOT a plan. It’s not even a political position, its nonsense and voting for him is dangerous.

This is our plight Connecticuters.  Vote for the Republican at 6% in the polls who doesn’t seem to be gearing up for any big comeback or vote for the guy whose in the lead who can stop the Ned Lamont train in its tracks.  Truthfully Joe brings a few positives to the table.  First, a vote for Joe is a vote against Ned Lamont.  Second, it will infuriate the nutroots and mega-antiwar-liberals not to mention the Democrat leadership which put all their eggs in his basket. Last, Joe argueably has the best position on the war in Iraq.

This is the best chance a Republican has had to win a US Senate seat in CT in years on account of the split in the Democrat vote.  It is a piss poor shame to pass on it.  Alan  if you are reading any of this, take my advice.  There are lots of people who WANT to vote for you, all we need is a reason.

1) Invest a couple grand in your website, put some real positions out there.  I have a feeling this will be one of the most internet searched and researched Senate races in history.  The information age has reached voters finally and I know many people that plan on making their voting decisions based on what they find online.   You are losing that battle worse than you can possibly know.  Every conservative blog I have visited endorses Lieberman, imagine what those nutroots are saying.

2)  Get yourself on TV, the Lamont vs Lieberman thing is national news.  Use this to get yourself out there, capitalize on it.

3) If all else fails, say something provocative every day.   If you can’t think of anything, call me.   I bet I could think of something.
