The times that try my soul.
Greetings faithful readers. You have my sincerest apologies that I haven’t contributed to this blog in what seems to be an eternity. Ultimately, the reason is my utter disgust for the foolish nature of my fellow American citizens as well as my genuine desire to avoid the requisite depression which follows as I react to the current political discourse. I just want to start grabbing people off the street and begin shaking them demanding “what the hell is wrong with you?”
What am I upset about? The immediate answer is of course, this Obama crap, but thinking about it, I realize its much much deeper than that. I think it boils down to how helpless I feel watching the America that I know and love slip away day by day. I mean who are these people? Do they really buy into this “hope” and “change” crap? Do they know that they are risking the strength and prosperity of future generations? Do they know that their children and their children’s children will grow up in what would seem a foreign country to them? Do they have any clue as to what any of these candidates positions are on any issues whatsoever?
It would seem to me that a large part of the problem is education. Not the “education” that politicians speak of, mind you. I mean a real “education” about life, history, and reality. I am of the ever-reinforced opinion that your average people on the street have no concept of any of that. They don’t know what America is or where it came from or how to define an American. They don’t know or understand history and I mean “any” history, American or otherwise. They don’t know the differences in our political parties never mind the candidates. They don’t understand the issues nor the ramifications of who they choose to put into office. Frankly, they don’t even get “real” reality. Newsflash, reality tv is not it. In the real world, elections and issues do indeed matter. Sure, some of the things us political junkies argue about seem insignificant but over time, these seemingly small incremental changes can have huge and sometimes dire effects. I am also sickened by just how spoiled and selfish the average person has become. I’m staggered by the lack of concern the average man has for his neighbor and I’m blown away by just how much greed there is in the world. It is as sickening as it is disgraceful.
I spend a large portion of my daily life campaigning against evil, against greed, and educating my fellow man about our political system, who is for what and who is against it, about our history, and about our future and the different paths it can take. Unfortunately, in large part, it falls on deaf ears. Apparently, as long as no one takes American Idol off the air, my fellow citizens will remain oblivious as we continue our slouch toward the end of the American culture as I know it. The events of September 11, 2001 slowed this steady march but only briefly. What tragedy would have to occur before my nation would reawaken? Immediately preceding the American Revolution, it would have been exceptionally difficult to find a man, woman or child who was unaware of the politics of the day and the consequences that would follow. Sure, there were those on all sides of each issue but at least, they knew the arguments to and for and directed the path of our great nation. Today, apathy rules the day and is likely what will drive America to its ultimate extinction. Friends, its up to us to stop it.
Of course there are some, though few, who remain in the fight. Today, we are up against the the most passioniate of all evil-doers. When apathy reigns, the evil wretches from the past creep in from the darkess and somehow the resulting lack of scrutiny grants them legitimacy. This has brought us from minor arguments in how to proceed one way or another as Americans to whether we should proceed as Americans at all.
I beseech anyone who considers themselves to be a loyal patriotic American citizen to make it their duty to learn the issues, understand the consequences and to pass on this education to their neighbors. For heavens sake, before you make an idiotic decision to vote for “hope” or “change”, please ask yourself “hope for what?”, “change to what?” America’s founding fathers sacrificed everything, up to and including pledging their lives and fortunes for us. What exactly are we doing for our future generations?
Next week, I promise to start some of that education here. I know many of you already have a handle on whats going on in the world and I thank God for you as you give me real “hope”. I just feel someone needs to give the straight truth to the world and little old me is gearing up for the job.
